Frequently Asked questions

With answers! :)

Q: What’s the smallest you can do?

A: The smallest computer key art custom pieces I make start at 1,000 keys, which is about $1,300 USD.

Q: How big can you do?

A: This will depend on the design. The more detailed it is, the bigger it will need to be. The actual sizes, and frame types for stability, will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Q: What does a piece cost?

A: Every piece will vary, but a good estimate is about $1.50 USD per key, or $2.95 USD per square inch.

Q: can you make donations?

A: As a small business, it is hard to donate at this time.

Q: how long does it take to make one?

A: Due to the process and all other pieces being built for shows and such, you can expect it to take 2-3 months to be completed, though most are completed sooner.

Q: what if i don’t have a picture of what I want?

A: Do your best to describe what you want or find examples of similar things and let me know what you like and don’t like on them to give me a decent idea of what you want. You can also find something online and give me the URL of the idea.

Q: how do i pay for a custom piece?

A: Once we have finalized what design and everything, you will be sent an invoice through PayPal, which will allow you to pay with a credit card or PayPal account. A deposit, determined by the artist, must be paid in full before it will be started.

Q: what frame options do i have?

A: You have the option of a white or black wood frame. If it’s larger than 9 feet, it will need to be an installation with a trim, rather than wood frame to hang.

Q: what colors can be utilized?

A: The keys come out in various shades of all sorts of colors. The most common colors are red, blue, purple, green and yellow, on top of the natural black, beige, grey, and white. Keep in mind they are matted and not light colors as created on computers.

Q: Can I return something?

A: Returns are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All requests must be made by emailing the artist within 14 days of it being delivered. If a return is accepted, a refund may exclude return shipping fees and will not be processed until after the returned art is received. If the order arrives broken, we can file under insurance to get it fixed/replaced. (Make sure you have pictures of the outer and inner packaging and the damaged parts.) If you want to cancel an order that hasn’t yet shipped, you can expect to see your refund (minus processing fees) within 3-5 business days. If in the rare event that the artist is unable to fulfill an order, you will be given the option of store credit or full refund.

Q: does submitting a request guarantee it will be made?

A: No. Not every design works with pixelation, especially when on a budget. The artist will do his best to make mock-ups of what you’ve requested and if both parties agree, an invoice will be sent to you to pay, at least a deposit to get started. The full amount must be paid before the piece will be finalized and shipped.

Q: How does shipping work?

A: Artworks already made and purchased through the website are free shipping in the contiguous US and a charge anywhere else. Shipping includes postage, wooden crate, and insurance. In the case of a custom piece, the artist will determine the weight of the piece when completed. You will then be responsible for the shipping costs. Most artworks are shipped in a crate, in which an extra crate fee will also be applied.

Q: can you ship internationally?

A: Contact me and we’ll work it out! Pieces/items ready to be purchased on the website are set up to be able to ship internationally, at additional charges. You will be responsible for the additional duty/import fees and taxes.

Q: How do you get colors?

A: I figured out a recipe to dye the recycled keys so that the characters still come through.

Q: Do you clean the keys?

A: Upon gaining possession of the keyboards, the keys are popped off and then washed. All clean!

Q: Do you accept my donated keyboards?

A: I appreciate your thought…but I will only accept large quantities (20+). Save your money on shipping and recycle them through e-waste.
